Border Czar Homan Announces Major Shift In Minnesota ICE Presence

White House border czar Tom Homan announced that he will “draw down” the number of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Minnesota following two fatal shootings within the past month.

“This is common sense cooperation that allows us to draw down the number of people we have here. Yes, I said it. Draw down the number of people here,” Homan said.

Homan’s decision comes amid protests within the state and nationwide following the fatal shootings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by ICE agents 17 days apart in Minneapolis. The announcement came hours after President Donald Trump warned Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey that he was “playing with fire” for insisting that local authorities wouldn’t follow federal immigration laws.

“Could somebody in his inner sanctum please explain that this statement is a very serious violation of the Law, and that he is PLAYING WITH FIRE!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social.

Frey shared a screengrab of Trump’s post on his X account shortly after.

“The job of our police is to keep people safe, not enforce fed immigration laws. I want them preventing homicides, not hunting down a working dad who contributes to MPLS & is from Ecuador. It’s similar to the policy your guy Rudy had in NYC. Everyone should feel safe calling 911,” he wrote.

Trump had previously said he intended to “de-escalate a little bit” in Minneapolis after the outrage over the shooting deaths of Good and Pretti, both of whom were U.S. citizens engaging in protests at the time of their deaths 17 days apart. The two ICE agents who opened fire on Pretti during last Saturday (January 24) have been placed on administrative leave, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security confirmed via USA TODAY.
