Indiana Judge And His Wife Shot At Their Home By Unknown Assailant

Authorities are investigating a shooting that injured Indiana state court Judge Steven Meyer and his wife, Kimberly, at their Lafayette home on Sunday (January 18). The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Mill Pond Lane, leaving both victims with gunshot wounds. Judge Meyer sustained an injury to his arm, while his wife was shot in the hip. Both are in stable condition after receiving medical treatment.

The Lafayette Police Department, along with local, state, and federal agencies, is actively investigating the case. Shell casings were recovered at the scene, but no arrests have been made, and the motive remains unclear. Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski called the shooting a “senseless unacceptable act of violence” and assured the community that all available resources are being utilized to apprehend the responsible parties.

Kimberly Meyer expressed gratitude for the support and assistance received from the community and first responders. She stated, “I have great confidence in the Lafayette Police Department’s investigation and want to thank all the agencies involved for their work.”

The shooting has raised concerns among other Indiana judges, prompting state Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush to urge vigilance in personal security. She emphasized the importance of safety for judges as they work to resolve cases peacefully.

The investigation continues, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Lafayette Police Department at 765-807-1200.
