Multiple Prosecutors Quit Due To Concerns Over ICE Shooting Probe: Report

At least three prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minnesota have resigned due to concerns about the investigation into the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer. The resignations of Joseph Thompson, Melinda Williams, and another unnamed attorney were confirmed by a source familiar with the situation, as reported by NBC News.

According to The Hill up to six prosecutors stepped down due to concerns with the investigation.

The controversy centers around the decision to investigate Good’s widow rather than the ICE officer, Jonathan Ross, who shot Good during an ICE operation in Minneapolis. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem labeled Good as a “domestic terrorist” following the incident. Vice President JD Vance defended Ross’s actions as self-defense, while Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized the media for allegedly smearing the ICE agent.

The Justice Department’s decision not to pursue a civil rights investigation into the shooting has prompted the resignations. The investigation, initially a joint effort between the FBI and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), is now solely led by the FBI. The BCA stated that they no longer have access to the necessary case materials for an independent investigation.

Video footage reportedly shows Good driving away during an immigration raid before being shot. The Department of Homeland Security claims she attempted to use her vehicle as a weapon, justifying the use of deadly force by the ICE officer.
