LA Firefighters Earn Walk of Fame Star, Thanks to Student

A new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame will honor the Los Angeles Fire Department, thanks to a heartfelt letter from an eighth-grader in Connecticut. The star recognizes the bravery of firefighters who battled the Palisades and Sunset fires earlier this year.

The idea originated with Eniola Taiwo, an eighth-grade student from Orange, Connecticut. Her class assignment was to write a letter about heroes, and she chose to address it to Steve Nissen, the president and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. In her letter, Taiwo expressed her belief that the firefighters deserved recognition on the Walk of Fame for their heroic efforts.

Nissen was deeply impressed by the letter, which was hand-addressed and included a real stamp. “The kind of letter you don’t see that often,” Nissen said. He agreed with Taiwo’s sentiments and decided to honor the firefighters with an Award of Excellence star.

The ceremony to unveil the star will take place this Friday morning in Hollywood. Eniola, her family, and her teacher will attend the event, with travel funded by contributions from Disney and other supporters.

LAFD Chief Jamie Moore expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying, “It speaks volumes that an eighth grader would recognize a way of showing her gratitude to what our firefighters do every single day.” The event highlights the importance of community appreciation for first responders and their dedication to public safety.
