Cyclist Killed, 2 Injured in Huntington Beach DUI Crash

A tragic accident occurred in Huntington Beach on Monday morning when an allegedly intoxicated driver struck three bicyclists, killing one and injuring two others. The incident took place on Pacific Coast Highway near Beach Boulevard at approximately 6:45 a.m.

The driver, identified as Amber Calderon, 43, from Long Beach, was driving a 2006 Mercedes E-Class when she hit the cyclists riding in the bike lane. According to the Los Angeles Times, Calderon initially fled the scene but stopped about half a mile away, where she was arrested by police. She faces charges of felony DUI, gross vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run, and possession of narcotics.

The deceased cyclist was identified as Eric John Williams, 45, of Garden Grove. The other two cyclists, whose identities have not been released, were transported to a nearby hospital with severe injuries. The Huntington Beach Police Department is investigating the crash, including whether speed or distracted driving were contributing factors.

All southbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway, from Beach Boulevard to Newland Street, were closed to traffic but reopened before 1 p.m. The police department urges anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them at (714) 536-5670.
