Boar’s Head is expanding a previous recall due to the possibility of listeria contamination to include an additional seven million pounds of deli meats. Last week, the company recalled over 207,000 pounds of deli meats because they may be contaminated with listeria bacteria.
On Monday (July 29), Boar’s Head was informed by the United States Department of Agriculture that its Strassburger Brand Liverwurst had been linked to the national Listeria outbreak that has sickened 34 people across 13 states. Two of those people died.
As a result, the deli meat company decided to recall all of the items produced at its facility in Jarratt, Virginia. That includes 71 ready-to-eat deli products, including ham, bologna, bacon, frankfurter, and sausage.
The recalled products were sold in all 50 states and have “sell by” dates ranging from July 29 through October 17.
“We have also decided to pause ready-to-eat operations at this facility until further notice,” Boar’s Head said in a statement. “As a company that prioritizes safety and quality, we believe it is the right thing to do.”
