Newsom Rebuts Trump’s Claim on Low-Income Housing in L.A.

Governor Gavin Newsom’s office has responded to President Donald Trump’s recent claim regarding low-income housing in Pacific Palisades. Trump alleged on his Truth Social platform that Newsom was in the “final stages” of approving low-income housing in the area, which had been devastated by wildfires earlier this year. Newsom’s press office quickly dismissed the claim as false, stating that Trump was “making things up again.”

According to the Los Angeles Times, the governor’s office clarified that applications for new urban lot splits and two-unit developments in the Palisades are banned by an emergency order. In July, the state announced $101 million in funding for affordable housing projects near burn scars, but Newsom issued an executive order allowing local governments to limit housing developments in affected areas.

NJ.com reported that Newsom’s press office also refuted Trump’s claim about water mismanagement during the wildfires, noting that water from the Pacific Northwest does not connect to California’s water systems. The press office’s response included a sharp retort, suggesting Trump take his “dementia meds.”

The Independent highlighted that Newsom has adopted a more combative social media style, similar to Trump’s, often using nicknames and all-caps rants. Newsom’s approach has gained attention amid ongoing political clashes between California and the White House.
