Six Young Children Rescued From Locked Storage Unit

Early Tuesday morning (September 16), Milwaukee Police discovered six children, including a two-month-old infant, locked inside a storage unit on the city’s north side. The children, ranging in age from 2 months to 9 years, were found at a StorSafe facility on 27th Street and Silver Spring Drive. Fortunately, none of the children were harmed.

A 26-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man were arrested in connection with the incident. The relationship between the adults and the children has not been disclosed, and the circumstances leading to the children being placed in the storage unit remain unclear. The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing potential charges.

Residents in the area expressed shock and concern. A neighbor reported seeing what appeared to be a family with children frequently visiting the storage unit over the summer. Another resident, Tonya Lowe, told WITI, “We have failed these kids. We don’t need to be cruel and treat our kids like animals and lock them in places they don’t deserve to be put in.”

The Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services has responded to provide services to the children. As the investigation continues, authorities are examining how the situation went unnoticed despite the presence of security cameras at the facility.
