Costco has issued a recall for its Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene due to concerns that the bottles may spontaneously shatter, posing a risk even when left unopened. The recall affects bottles sold between April 25 and August 26, 2025, in 12 Midwestern states, including Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Customers are advised not to open the bottles. Instead, they should wrap them in paper towels, place them in a plastic bag, and dispose of them in the trash to prevent any risk from shattered glass. Costco has emphasized that the bottles should not be returned to stores.
Customers who received the recall letter are entitled to a full refund by returning the letter to their nearest Costco location. The affected bottles can be identified by the item number 1879870.
The recall has been issued as a precautionary measure to ensure customer safety. For any questions or concerns, customers can contact Ethica Wines, the distributor of the prosecco, at customercare@ethicawines.com or by calling (786) 810-7132.
Costco has apologized for any inconvenience caused and is committed to resolving the issue promptly.
