The Palisades Community Renewal Center has officially opened its doors in Santa Monica, offering hope and healing to those affected by the devastating wildfires earlier this year. Located off Nebraska and Centinela Avenues, the center provides a range of services to support community recovery.
The center offers free therapy sessions, with the Maple Counseling Center providing 12 complimentary sessions to those impacted by the fires. Additionally, art classes for all ages will be conducted by the nonprofit P.S. Arts, aiming to foster creativity and healing. Juliet Curry, director of the center, emphasized the importance of sustained support, stating, “Within a week of the January wildfires, the Picerne Family Foundation came together to envision a community healing space” according to FOX LA.
The center’s opening ceremony featured speeches from Santa Monica’s mayor, Lana Negrete, and Ken Picerne, president of the Picerne Family Foundation. The facility, located at 3212 Nebraska Avenue, is a collaborative effort to address both individual and community recovery needs. It will remain open through 2029, recognizing that healing is a long-term process as reported by SMDP.
The center also includes a multipurpose room for community events such as movie screenings, dance parties, and yoga classes. For more information about the center and upcoming events, visit their website.
