Parents Plead Not Guilty in Baby Emmanuel’s Disappearance

The parents of seven-month-old Emmanuel Haro have pleaded not guilty to murder charges in Riverside. Jake Haro, 32, and Rebecca Haro, 41, are accused of faking their child’s disappearance after Rebecca claimed she was attacked in a parking lot while changing Emmanuel’s diaper. Prosecutors allege that the couple abused Emmanuel over time, leading to his presumed death.

The couple was arrested following inconsistencies in Rebecca’s story and multiple searches of their Cabazon home. Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin stated, “The filing in this case reflects our belief that baby Emmanuel was abused… over time, and that eventually, because of that abuse, he succumbed to those injuries” (ABC7 reports).

The Haros are also facing charges of making a false police report and are being held on $1 million bail. The case has drawn significant community attention, with local residents and advocates attending the court proceedings to show support for Emmanuel. Jazmin Hernandez, a true crime podcaster, is advocating for a child abuser registry, stating, “I want to work to make a change to our laws to protect our children.”

The couple’s next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16. The legal proceedings are being closely watched, as the case continues to unfold (according to Live5 News).
