A grand jury has decided not to indict a man accused of throwing a sandwich at a federal officer. The incident occurred during a protest, and the man faced potential charges of assaulting a federal officer. However, after reviewing the evidence, the grand jury chose not to proceed with an indictment.
The man, identified as 37-year-old Sean Dunn, was arrested and charged in federal court with felony assault on law enforcement following the August 10th incident. He confronted the officers, who were deployed as part of President Donald Trump‘s immigration and crime crackdown, outside of a Subway restaurant, where he cursed them out before throwing the sandwich.
He then fled the scene but was quickly detained by officers.
He worked as a paralegal for the Justice Department and has since been terminated from his position.
The decision not to indict has sparked discussions about the nature of the incident and the appropriate level of response from law enforcement. Some view the act as a minor offense that does not warrant severe legal action, while others argue that any assault on a federal officer should be taken seriously.
