With midday temperatures hitting triple digits in some areas, the loss of power was affecting about 5,600 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers in various locations in the city.  About 600 Southern California Edison customers were affected and without power.

At least that many were without electrical service elsewhere in Los Angeles County, according to findenergy.com.

Thursday was shaping up to be one of the hottest days of the summer and LADWP and Southern California Edison officials have been asking customers to conserve energy during the heat wave due to the strain on the power grid.
