Disneyland has unveiled its most advanced Audio-Animatronic figure yet: Walt Disney himself. This new attraction, “Walt Disney – A Magical Life,” will debut on Thursday at the Main Street Opera House, coinciding with Disneyland’s 70th anniversary. The show offers a cinematic presentation of Walt Disney’s life, culminating in an encounter with the lifelike animatronic figure in his recreated office.
The figure, depicting Walt Disney circa 1963, showcases historically accurate costuming and meticulously captures his mannerisms and expressions. According to KTLA, Disney’s Imagineers have worked for over seven years to create this animatronic, using archival footage and restored audio clips to ensure authenticity.
The attraction begins with the “Evolution of a Dream” exhibit, featuring art and artifacts related to Disneyland’s history. Guests then move into the theater for the film “One Man’s Dream,” followed by a “meeting” with the Walt animatronic. Travel Weekly reports that the animatronic includes several firsts, such as a “twinkle in the eye” and realistic skin created with new methods.
Tom Fitzgerald, Senior Creative Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, stated that the project aimed to honor Walt Disney through the art form he pioneered. As reported by Parade, the show is designed to inspire all ages, sharing Walt’s timeless philosophy of following dreams and turning setbacks into successes.
The Main Street Opera House has been renovated to accommodate a rotating stage, allowing “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” to share the space with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln” in the future.
