Former FBI Director James Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan are under investigation by the Justice Department, Fox News reported. According to sources, the investigation is part of a broader effort by President Donald Trump‘s appointees to address what they perceive as misconduct by officials involved in the 2016 Russia investigation.
John Ratcliffe, the current CIA Director and a critic of his predecessors, has referred Brennan to the FBI, accusing him of lying to Congress. The FBI is also examining Comey’s role in the Russia investigation, though the specific reasons for the inquiry remain unclear.
The investigations come at a time when Trump supporters are pressuring federal law enforcement to pursue aggressive actions against those who previously investigated the former president. The Justice Department has not commented on the ongoing investigations, and CIA and FBI officials have also declined to make statements.
When asked about the investigations, President Trump denied any knowledge but called Comey and Brennan “very dishonest people.”
