Man Killed Trying To Save Turtle Walking Across Busy Florida Highway

A tragic accident claimed the life of Frank J. Quinn on Sunday (July 6) as he attempted to rescue a turtle on Florida’s Interstate 95. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Quinn stopped his vehicle on the right shoulder of the highway in Indian River County and began crossing the southbound lanes to assist the turtle.

As he attempted the rescue, a 2020 Mazda CX-9 driven by a 44-year-old woman from Miami slowed down to avoid hitting him. However, a 2020 Dodge 3500 pickup truck, driven by a 53-year-old man from Port St. Lucie, failed to stop in time and rear-ended the Mazda, pushing it off the road. The pickup then struck Quinn, who was thrown onto the left shoulder and pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin witnessed the incident.

No injuries were reported among the passengers of the other vehicles involved in the accident. The incident, which occurred near Sebastian in Indian River County, led to the closure of all lanes for several hours.
