CBS, Paramount Reaches Massive Settlement With Trump

CBS and its parent company Paramount Global agreed to a settlement that could pay President Donald Trump north of $30 million in relation to his election interference lawsuit stemming from its 60 Minutes interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 presidential election, FOX News reports.

Trump will be due $16 million upfront to cover legal fees, costs of the case and contributions to his future presidential library or charitable causes at his discretion. The settlement is also anticipated to include another payment estimated to be in the mid-eight figures for advertisements, public service announcements, or similar transmissions in support of conservative causes, according to FOX News.

In total, CBS is estimated to pay more than the $15 million ABC owed Trump for its defamation lawsuit settlement last year. Additionally, CBS has agreed to update its editorial standards to install a mandatory new rule to release full, unedited transcripts of interviews with future presidential candidates moving forward, which is said to be referred to as the “Trump Rule,” a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to FOX News.

“With this record settlement, President Donald J. Trump delivers another win for the American people as he, once again, holds the Fake News media accountable for their wrongdoing and deceit. CBS and Paramount Global realized the strength of this historic case and had no choice but to settle. President Trump will always ensure that no one gets away with lying to the American People as he continues on his singular mission to Make America Great Again,” a spokesperson for Trump’s legal team said in a statement to FOX News.

Trump sought $20 billion in his lawsuit against CBS claiming its 60 Minutes interview with Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee at the time, committed election interference through allegedly deceitful editing. CBS and Paramount Global claimed they didn’t acknowledge any journalistic wrongdoing by agreeing to the settlement.

“The settlement will include a release of all claims regarding any CBS reporting through the date of the settlement, including the Texas action and the threatened defamation action,” Paramount said in a statement obtained by FOX News.
