An 82-year-old woman named Karen Diamond has died from injuries sustained during a Molotov cocktail attack in Boulder, Colorado. The Boulder County District Attorney’s Office announced her death, which has led to an upgrade of the charges against the suspect, Mohamed Soliman, from attempted murder to murder. Diamond is the only fatality from the attack, which occurred on June 1.
Prosecutors have identified 14 additional victims and added 66 counts to the state indictment against Soliman. On the day of the attack, Soliman allegedly threw Molotov cocktails at a group of marchers advocating for the release of Israeli hostages outside the Boulder courthouse. During the incident, Soliman reportedly shouted “Free Palestine” and expressed intentions to harm Zionists, according to court documents.
Soliman, currently in federal custody, has pleaded not guilty to federal hate crime charges. State charges against him include first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and first-degree assault. His preliminary hearing for the state case is scheduled for July 15. The Boulder County District Attorney, Michael Dougherty, stated, “Our office will fight for justice for the victims, their loved ones, and the community.”
