Security Guard Fatally Shoots Gunman Who Opened Fire During Church Service

An armed gunman was shot dead by security staff after opening fire at CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne, Michigan, on Sunday (June 22). The incident occurred during a morning service attended by about 150 worshippers. According to Wayne Police Chief Ryan Strong, the gunman, a 31-year-old white male with no known connection to the church, drove recklessly before exiting his vehicle wearing a tactical vest and carrying both a rifle and a handgun.

As the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Brian Browning, approached the church, he began firing, injuring one person in the leg. A quick-thinking parishioner struck Browning with a vehicle, allowing security staff to intervene and fatally shoot him. Chief Strong praised the actions of the church’s staff, stating that they “undoubtedly saved many lives and prevented a large-scale mass shooting.”

The injured individual was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and no other injuries were reported. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but it appears the gunman was experiencing a mental health crisis. The FBI is assisting local authorities in the ongoing investigation.
