Police arrested 25-year-old Eduardo Pineda, an armed protester, during the “No Kings” demonstration in Huntington Beach yesterday. According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, officers patrolling near Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway witnessed Pineda “actively shouting at a pedestrian and challenging him to a fight” around 3:30 p.m.
Upon approaching Pineda, officers discovered he had active warrants for vandalism and battery. During a search, police found a loaded handgun concealed in his waistband. As a convicted felon, Pineda is prohibited from possessing firearms. He was subsequently booked for being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm and for challenging another person to fight in public, in addition to his outstanding warrants.
KTLA reported that Pineda was waving a Mexican flag during the incident. The “No Kings” protests, opposing President Donald Trump’s administration’s policies, took place nationwide, including several in Southern California. While most remained peaceful, the Huntington Beach event saw counter-protesters supporting the Trump administration.
The Huntington Beach Police Department emphasized its commitment to facilitating peaceful demonstrations while addressing any unlawful behavior. The department stated, “HBPD remains committed to facilitating peaceful public demonstrations while taking action against any unlawful or threatening behavior.”
