Police Begin New Search For Madeleine McCann

In the latest efforts to find Madeleine McCann, police in Portugal have intensified their search, using advanced technology and heavy machinery near the resort where the British toddler went missing in 2007. On Wednesday (June 4), teams of Portuguese and German officers, along with firefighters, focused on derelict structures a few miles from Praia da Luz, where Madeleine was last seen 18 years ago.

The operation involves clearing debris around abandoned buildings and using ground-penetrating radar, capable of scanning up to 33 feet underground, to search for evidence. The search is being conducted at the request of German federal police, who are investigating Christian Brückner, the prime suspect in the case. Brückner, currently in prison for an unrelated crime, has denied any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance.

Brückner lived near Praia da Luz at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance. A local resident described him as an “angry” young man, but noted that his former cottage has not been searched this week.

Officers have cordoned off the search areas, preventing journalists from approaching. The search is expected to cover approximately 120 acres and last until Friday. Kate and Gerry McCann, Madeleine’s parents, have not commented on the ongoing investigation.

The investigation continues amid international media attention and hopes of uncovering new evidence.
