Former President Donald Trump shared another statement regarding the assassination attempt against him on his Truth Social account early Sunday (July 14) morning hours after the alleged shooter was identified.
“We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness,” Trump wrote. “Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed. In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, late Saturday (July 13) night, though a motive has not yet been determined. The incident took place while Trump was addressing his supporters at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, earlier in the evening and resulted in two deaths, the gunman and an audience member, while two spectators were critically injured, NBC News reports.
The alleged gunman was immediately “neutralized” by Secret Service after gunshots were fired. Trump claimed that he was injured when a stray bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear in an earlier post on his Truth Social account.
“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” Trump wrote. “I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
Trump is scheduled to accept the Republican presidential nomination during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this week.
