A nine-foot alligator, affectionately named Elvis, caused a commotion on Wednesday (May 7) when it was found lounging in the parking lot of Fishhawk Early Learning Preschool in Lithia, Florida. As families arrived to drop off their children, they were met with the unexpected sight of the large reptile.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies quickly arrived on the scene to ensure the safety of the children and staff by steering them away from the alligator. A certified trapper was called in to assist with the situation.
Video footage captured the dramatic rescue, showing Elvis performing somersaults in an attempt to evade capture. The trapper, with help from deputies, eventually managed to secure the alligator and relocate it safely. The sheriff’s office praised the quick response and teamwork that led to the successful removal of the alligator, stating, “Thanks to a quick response and teamwork, this king of the (swamp) jungle was safely removed.”
Elvis’s unexpected appearance served as a reminder of the unique wildlife encounters that can occur in Florida.
