The U.S. Postal Service announced a 5-cent increase in the price of a First-Class Mail Forever stamp, raising the cost from 68 cents to 73 cents. This change, which marks the second price increase this year, is set to take effect on Sunday (July 14).
In addition, the additional-ounce price for single-piece letters will increase from 24 cents to 28 cents.
In April, the USPS filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission for the price changes, which also include adjustments for Special Services products such as Certified Mail and money order fees.
However, there will be no price increase for Post Office Box rental fees, and a 10 percent price reduction will be applied for postal insurance when mailing an item.
“As changes in the mailing and shipping marketplace continue, these price adjustments are needed to achieve the financial stability sought by the organization’s Delivering for America 10-year plan,” the USPS said in a statement. “USPS prices remain among the most affordable in the world.”
