LOS ANGELES (CNS) – The 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies will combine tradition and cutting edge amenities with the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium in Inglewood serving as venues, it was announced Thursday.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass joined Inglewood Mayor James Butts, Los Angeles City Councilmember Curren Price, and LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover in making the announcement Thursday.
“Today’s announcement marks a proud milestone as the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will become the first venue in history to host three Olympic Games,” Bass said. “For over a century, the Coliseum has been a landmark host to some of the most iconic moments in all of sports history. That story continues in 2028 as our City and our region welcomes the world for what will be the greatest Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
The Coliseum will be the first venue to host three Olympic Opening Ceremonies. It was the site for the Opening Ceremonies for the Summer Olympics in 1932, 1984 and will be the site in 2028.
“As a proud LA28 Venue City, the City of Inglewood is honored to play such a pivotal role in the 2028 Games,” Butts said. “Our stadium is one of the most impressive in the world and will deliver an incredible experience for thousands of in-person fans, with millions more watching from home, as we come together to celebrate the Opening Ceremonies of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
The Olympic Opening Ceremony, scheduled for July 14, 2028, will be shared between the Coliseum and SoFi Stadium, creating a dual-venue experience that will also serve as the Olympic debut for SoFi Stadium.
“The venues selected for the 2028 Opening and Closing Ceremonies will highlight Los Angeles’ rich sporting history and cutting-edge future, showcasing the very best that L.A. has to offer on the world stage,” LA28 Chairperson and President Casey Wasserman said. “These two extraordinary venues will create an unforgettable experience, welcoming fans from across the globe to an Olympic and Paralympic Games like never before and concluding what will go down as one of the most incredible Games in history.”
The Closing Ceremony is set for July 30, 2028, at the Coliseum and will add another historic moment for Olympics traditions in Los Angeles.

Pla, President, Los Angeles Coliseum Commission & CEO, Cordoba Corporation, said. “The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum stands alone as the only venue in the world that will host three Olympics. The question now isn’t if L.A. will be ready — it’s if the world will be ready for LA.”
The Paralympic Opening Ceremony is set at SoFi Stadium on Aug. 14, 2028, and will kick off the first Paralympic Games in L.A. The Paralympic Closing Ceremony will be at the Coliseum on Aug. 27, 2028.
“The University of Southern California is excited to welcome the world to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Carol L. Folt, President of the University of Southern California, said. “Our Trojan football stadium is a national landmark featuring the iconic 1932 and 1984 Olympic torch, and in 2028 will once again make history as the first stadium to host events for three Olympic Games. It’s an honor for us to contribute to the Olympic Opening celebration and host both the Olympic and Paralympic Closing Ceremonies in 2028.”
