Hundreds Of Flights Canceled As Severe Storms Move Across Central US

Severe weather and flash flooding have led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights across the United States, causing significant travel disruptions. On Wednesday (April 30), over 900 flights were canceled, with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport experiencing the majority of these cancellations, totaling more than 700. As of Thursday (May 1), nearly 400 additional flights have been canceled.

The severe weather is impacting a wide area, with the worst conditions expected from Oklahoma City to Dallas to Alexandria, Louisiana, and from Nashville, Tennessee, to Louisville, Kentucky, to Charleston, West Virginia, to Cleveland, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. According to ABC News, the primary threats include damaging wind gusts, large hail, and the possibility of tornadoes, particularly from Nashville to Pittsburgh.

Flash flooding is also a major concern, with the most severe flooding expected in Oklahoma and the Pittsburgh area. The storms are forecasted to begin around noon and end by Thursday night. On Friday (May 2), the severe weather and flash flood threats will shift to the south-central Plains, focusing on Texas, where large hail and damaging wind gusts are anticipated. The highest threat for flash flooding will stretch from Texas to Mississippi, affecting cities such as San Antonio, Dallas, Ada, Oklahoma, Little Rock, Arkansas, Jackson, Mississippi, and Shreveport, Louisiana.

Travelers are advised to check with airlines for updates on flight statuses and to remain cautious of the weather conditions. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for affected areas, urging residents to stay informed and prepared for potential emergencies.
