Hollywood Residents Demand Action Against Squatters

Residents of a Hollywood neighborhood are urging city officials to address the growing issue of squatters and criminal activities in two vacant buildings on Wilton Place. These empty properties have become a hub for transients, causing significant safety concerns among the community. Neighbor Jeane Rice described the situation as “a nightmare,” citing noise, drug use, and criminal activities as major issues.

Despite numerous calls to the police and appeals to city leaders, residents report no significant change. According to KTLA, neighbors have witnessed fires and illegal activities, including the display of snuff film posters. Some residents have even observed unclothed individuals loitering around the properties.

The neighborhood’s frustration has prompted Los Angeles City Councilmember Hugo Soto Martinez to take action. His office is coordinating with the Department of Building and Safety to declare the properties a public nuisance. If approved, the city could place a lien and secure the sites. The Daily Mail reported that residents are demanding immediate security measures and increased police patrols to restore safety.

Neighbors are also considering legal representation to expedite the resolution. As the case is expected to go before the Board of Building and Safety Commissioners in May, residents remain hopeful for swift action to reclaim their neighborhood.
