A missing 16-year-old girl from Missouri was discovered hiding in a closet in the home of a convicted sex offender in Fort Collins, Colorado, after sending a distress message via Instagram. The girl had been missing since December 6, 2024, when her father reported her absence from school.
The teen was found in the home of 44-year-old Maximilian Bondrescu, a registered sex offender with a prior conviction for communication with a minor for immoral purposes. Bondrescu now faces charges including second-degree kidnapping, sexual assault on a child, false imprisonment, child abuse, and failure to register as a sex offender. He is currently held in Larimer County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.
The girl’s ordeal ended when she managed to send an Instagram message to a friend on April 15, which led investigators to track the IP address to Bondrescu’s residence. Police obtained a warrant and found the frightened teen hiding in a closet when they searched the house on April 18.
The arrest affidavit reveals that the girl had initially communicated with Bondrescu on an app called ‘Boo’ before moving their conversations to Snapchat. Bondrescu allegedly drove to Missouri to pick her up, avoiding toll roads to leave no trace. During her captivity, Bondrescu forced her to work for his snow removal business while masked to conceal her identity and age.
