Three family members were tragically killed when an Amtrak train struck them near Bristol, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, on Thursday (April 3). The victims have been identified as 56-year-old Christopher Cramp, 31-year-old David Cramp, and 24-year-old Thomas Cramp. According to the Bucks County coroner, the deaths of Christopher and David were ruled accidental, while Thomas’s death was ruled a suicide.
The incident occurred around 6:10 p.m. when the Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 85, traveling from Boston to Richmond, Virginia, hit the three individuals on the tracks near Beaver and Prospect streets. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
Bristol Borough Police Chief Joseph Moors stated that officers responded to reports of people on the tracks just before the train struck the victims. The train carried 236 passengers and crew, none of whom were injured. Amtrak police are leading the investigation, working with local authorities to determine why the family was on the tracks.
Train services on Amtrak and SEPTA’s Trenton Line were temporarily suspended but resumed later that night. Amtrak expressed condolences and is cooperating with the investigation.
