On Saturday, a series of protests known as “Hands Off” will take place across Southern California, including Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Ana, San Bernardino, and San Clemente. These demonstrations are part of a nationwide movement opposing President Donald Trump’s administration’s policies, including spending cuts and mass layoffs of federal workers, which protesters argue are threatening essential public services and social safety nets.
In Los Angeles, a 20-foot-tall balloon depicting President Trump in a diaper and a 15-foot-tall balloon of him in a Russian military uniform will be featured. The Los Angeles protest, expected to draw around 7,000 people, will conclude at L.A. City Hall and include speeches from public figures like actress Jodie Sweetin and comedian Francesa Fiorentini.
The protests are organized by over 200 groups, including the ACLU, Greenpeace, and Planned Parenthood Action Fund, as reported by the Orange County Register. In Santa Ana, organizers expect up to 3,000 participants. The protests are also addressing issues like veterans’ benefits, with the Department of Veterans Affairs planning significant job cuts.
According to Axios, the protests are the largest since Trump took office, with over 1,100 events planned nationwide. Organizers are emphasizing nonviolence and de-escalation during the demonstrations.
In Michigan, 55 protests are planned, as noted by Yahoo News, focusing on issues like Social Security office closures and federal worker layoffs. The nationwide protests reflect growing discontent with the administration’s policies and aim to mobilize citizens for change.
