Scientists Make Disturbing Discovery While Collecting Samples From River

A group of scientists made a grim discovery while collecting water samples from the Cape Fear River in North Carolina on Tuesday (March 18). During their routine tests, they found a body in the river near eastern Fayetteville, approximately 65 miles from Raleigh. The discovery prompted an immediate response from local authorities and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, which has taken over the investigation.

The body has been sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and to determine the cause of death.

The recovery of the body was delayed due to the aftermath of recent hurricanes and storms that have swept through the region, leaving fallen trees and debris in their wake. Officials believe the body entered the river from another county and drifted downstream before coming to rest between River Road and Highway 295.

The Cape Fear River, a 202-mile-long waterway, flows through several urban areas in North Carolina before reaching the Atlantic Ocean. It is known for its murky waters and numerous dams and blockages.

The recent storms have caused significant damage across the South and Midwest, resulting in at least 42 deaths. As North Carolina continues to recover from these events, authorities are working to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic discovery.
