California Fire Foundation Raises $20M for Fire Relief in LA and Ventura

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – The California Fire Foundation has raised more than $20 million for wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, officials announced Wednesday.

In the two months since the fires, the nonprofit said, it has distributed more than 7,200 disaster relief SAVE Cards, providing $1.8 million in aid to nearly 23,000 families. Additional assistance includes $500,000 in Uber Eats vouchers, $20,000 in Postmates vouchers and $54,000 in DoorDash gift cards, according to the organization.

“The California Fire Foundation is committed to providing critical support to the residents of Los Angeles County and Ventura County during these challenging times,” Angie Carmignani, executive director of the California Fire Foundation, said in a statement. “Our work and community support are more vital now than ever, with relief and recovery efforts expected to take years.”

The Eaton and Palisades fires in L.A. County, which ignited on Jan. 7, scorched nearly 60,000 acres, destroyed more than 16,000 structures and claimed 29 lives. The Kenneth, Hughes and Olivas Fires in Ventura County burned through more than 11,500 acres.

The foundation said it was shifting to long-term recovery, launching a multi-year grant program through its California Rises Disaster Relief & Recovery Grant. California-based fire departments, firefighter associations, federally recognized tribes and nonprofits can apply at CaliforniaFireFoundation.org.

The Sacramento-based nonprofit provides financial and emotional support to fallen firefighters’ families, firefighters and affected communities. It partners with local fire stations to distribute emergency aid through its SAVE Card program.
