The 405 Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass will face back-to-back weekend lane closures for paving work as part of a $143.7 million pavement rehabilitation project.
The closures will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday, December 5, and continue until 5 a.m. on Monday, December 8. The same schedule will apply the following weekend, from Friday, December 12, to Monday, December 15. During these times, the freeway will be reduced to three lanes in each direction, and ramps at Getty Center Drive/Sepulveda Boulevard and Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive will be closed. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and consider public transportation to avoid delays.
The project aims to improve safety and mobility along the heavily trafficked freeway, extending the pavement’s life between Van Nuys and Westwood. Caltrans, the state agency overseeing the project, has stated that similar weekend lane reductions will occur approximately every two weeks along various sections of the 405. Residents and businesses near the construction zone should expect noise, vibrations, and dust due to the ongoing work.
For more details, Caltrans encourages drivers to check the Caltrans Quickmap for current road conditions and updates. The schedule is subject to change due to weather or operational reasons. Caltrans also reminds drivers to “Be Work Zone Alert” and “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
Caltrans has provided more information about the project on their website.
