A 40-year-old man was rescued from a tube slide at Northeast Elementary School in Vernon, Connecticut, on Saturday (August 16). The Town of Vernon Fire Department, along with Vernon EMS and Vernon Police Department, responded to the incident after receiving a call around 4:30 p.m. The man was found wedged headfirst in the middle of the slide, experiencing extreme discomfort due to the hot weather.
Emergency personnel provided the man with oxygen and ventilation to help alleviate his discomfort. According to a Facebook post by the Vernon Fire Department, additional resources, including Rescue 141 and Tower 541, were called to assist in the rescue. The team used an aerial ladder to stabilize the slide and cut it open to free the man.
Within 30 minutes, the man was successfully extricated from the slide. Despite the ordeal, he refused further medical treatment and transportation to a hospital. The incident has garnered viral attention on social media, with many users commenting on the unusual rescue. One user remarked, “New fear unlocked. Kudos to that man for being active with his kids.”
The Vernon Fire Department praised the professionalism of the responders, noting that this was a unique call for service. The department’s efforts ensured a safe and swift rescue, highlighting the importance of teamwork in emergency situations.
