3rd Prisoner Escapes Police Custody While Being Transported Through Airport

Authorities are searching for 20-year-old John Nino, who escaped custody at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Tuesday (August 12). Nino was being escorted by Washington State Department of Corrections officers when he fled shortly before 8 p.m. He was last seen crossing railroad tracks and heading toward Highway 99, wearing a red coat and gray sweatpants.

Nino, who stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 154 pounds, was on community supervision for second-degree robbery. He had a warrant for his arrest after failing to meet with his community corrections officer. Nino was recently arrested in New Mexico and was being returned to Washington when he managed to escape.

Authorities have urged the public not to approach Nino if spotted and to report any sightings to the police.

This incident marks the third escape from Sea-Tac Airport this year. In May, another inmate, Sedric Stevenson, also escaped and evaded capture for over six weeks before being apprehended in Kentucky.

Then in July, Gerson Enrique Castaneda Piche escaped from ICE custody near the airport’s rental car facility. Agents from the Department of Homeland Security were called in to assist the search and they located him several hours later near the airport’s rideshare pickup area.
