2025 LA Marathon Road Closures: Areas to Avoid Sunday

The 2025 Los Angeles Marathon is set for Sunday (March 16), and several road closures will be in effect to accommodate the event. The marathon, marking its 40th anniversary, will see tens of thousands of runners taking to the streets from downtown Los Angeles to Brentwood.

According to The Eastsider LA, street closures will begin as early as 2 a.m., with all closures finalized by 6 a.m. The race will start at 7 a.m., and roads will reopen on a rolling basis as determined by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and adjust travel times accordingly.

The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) will have traffic officers and special operations teams along the course, managing closures and directing traffic. They advise using public transit and allowing extra travel time. Some Metro buses and DASH routes will have detours in place.

For those planning to drive, be aware that marked tow-away zones along the marathon route will be strictly enforced, with vehicles towed at the owner’s expense. Whether participating, spectating, or navigating the city, residents are encouraged to plan ahead for a smooth marathon day experience.
