Liz Phair has shared a new song, “Good Side.” Phair recorded the track with Brad Wood, with whom she worked on her first three albums: Exile in Guyville, Whip-Smart, and Whitechocolatespaceegg. It will arrive on streaming services this Friday, October 11. Listen to “Good Side” at Stereogum.
In an interview with Stereogum’s James Rettig, Phair discussed her reunion with Wood: “I think I was curious to see what kind of music Brad and I (and [engineer/guitarist] Casey [Rice]) would make now, on the other side of our careers.” Phair also said that “Good Side” will appear on her next album, which she plans to release in spring 2020. Her memoir, Horror Stories, is out today (October 8).
Liz Phair’s last new album, Funstyle, arrived in July 2010. In 2017, she revealed that she was working on a new record with Ryan Adams. In a recent interview with Rob Tannenbaum for Vulture, Phair said that they never actually finished songs and that she’s not going to do anything with recordings they made. “He was unreliable, and I wasn’t willing to go along with his process,” she said.
