13-Year-Old Calls 911 After Father Shot in Arcadia Home

A 13-year-old boy called 911 after an intruder broke into his Arcadia home and fatally shot his father on Tuesday evening (March 11). Police arrived at the scene on the 50 block of Woodland Lane shortly before 6:30 p.m., responding to the distress call with tactical gear and weapons drawn.

According to investigators, the boy and his mother returned home to find the suspect had forced entry. The intruder then led them inside, where the 61-year-old father was shot in the stomach during an altercation, as confirmed by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Steven De Jong. The father was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Lieutenant De Jong described the incident as “a very frightening situation for the entire family,” noting that the attack appeared to be personally motivated. Fortunately, the boy and his mother were unharmed, and nothing was reported stolen from the home.

Authorities are reviewing security footage to identify the suspect and are seeking information from potential witnesses. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500 or submit tips anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
