Authorities seized 122 pounds of cocaine during a traffic stop on the 5 Freeway in San Clemente as announced by the U.S. Border Patrol on Sunday.
The operation was a collaborative effort between the U.S. Border Patrol and the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The cocaine was discovered after a CHP K9 unit alerted officers to a suspicious blue sedan. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found numerous bundles of drugs hidden inside a large plastic bin and a trash bag in the trunk. The driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not been disclosed, now faces multiple state drug charges.
This significant drug bust comes shortly after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized 163 pounds of methamphetamine at the California-Mexico border, further highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking. The recent seizures demonstrate the effectiveness of these operations in keeping communities safe.
