A 12-year-old girl in North Las Vegas has been charged with the murder of her father, James Waldie, following a fatal stabbing. The North Las Vegas Police Department responded to a welfare check at an apartment on Mercury Street around 9:30 p.m., where they found Waldie, 56, dead from stab wounds to the neck. The girl’s arrest followed an investigation that identified her as the sole suspect in the case.
The girl initially told officers that somebody broke into the house and stabbed her father, but eventually confessed to killing him.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a disagreement between the girl and her father earlier that evening. Police found no evidence of significant physical harm to the girl or signs of forced entry into the apartment. The girl has been booked into the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of murder with a deadly weapon.
Authorities had previously visited the residence earlier in December due to reports of a runaway juvenile and a domestic disturbance. The case remains under investigation as detectives work to uncover more details about the events leading up to the incident.
